Make your windshield wipers work better and last longer

We want to help you anyway we can that is the reason we decided to do this blog.  There are a lot of subjects we wish we could discuss with you, but couldn’t because we didn’t have the platform to do so before now.

Hopefully you’re learning more and more about the importance of having healthy windshields and auto glass in general. Now we want to share with you how to make your windshield wipers work better and last longer.

These great tips come to you from the famous Safelite Blog.  You’ve heard the old adage, “If you can’t beat them join them,” right?

Did you know you should change your windshield wipers out every 6 months?

Neither did I.  I had no idea.

Here’s a little infograph that Safelite did to explain more:

The importance of proper auto glass installation

Before I started writing for Auto Glass Maxx, I never gave the health of my windshield much thought.  Not even if I had a small chip or crack in the glass.  As long as my glass wasn’t shattered and I could still see out of the window I was pretty much okay with its health.

How wrong I was.  I never understood the seriousness or danger that I could have put myself and others in by driving with a windshield that wasn’t up to proper standards.

So today I want to share something else with you that I found on Windshield Surgeons (the videos that I shared were found on their site too).

The importance of proper auto glass installation

To really understand the importance of your auto glass being installed properly take a look at these blog post.

  2. Windshield Replacement

Do you have a windshield that you’re not sure should be replaced or repaired?  Give us a call to schedule a time to come out and let us inspect it – (281) 257-4241

Windshield safety

The windshield is a critical component of your cars safety. Your car glass role is to stay in place and keep occupants inside the vehicle during a car accident. It also serves as backboard for the inflating airbag and is required to ensure the airbags proper function. If a windshield or as our English friends call it Windscreen is not installed properly, it can loosen up in a collision and separate from the car body causing serious injuries.

I found this video on Sika Youtube channel that explains the process well and wanted to share it with you guys.

Windshield Replacement

Waiting…

We all hate doing it now-a-days don’t we?

But sometimes we have to and sometimes it can literally save our lives.  Okay so maybe I’m being a little dramatic once again, but it’s true as it pertains to getting your windshield replaced.

By law your windshield technician is supposed to make you wait a certain amount of time after it has been replaced and here is the reason why:

How a windshield is made

Today is Wednesday!  That means that for the next three days we will be posting new blog post about car glass.  If you’re like me you love learning and enjoy knowing about things just to know.  And learning about how a windshield is made is worth knowing.  You never know when it may come up in a conversation, right?

Okay maybe not, but it’s fun to know anyway.

To make a windshield or windscreen

They start with a plain sheet of glass.  An automative plotter moves a cutter wheel over it and the wheel scores the glass and a robotic arm brandishes a torch.

The torch moves along the score line and the thermal shock completes the cut.  This is the best way to clearly cut through glass.

Next a robot suctions up the cut piece of glass and transfers it to the next station where it pushes the glass against a series of sanding belts.

This takes off the sharp edges; it’s called seaming.  From there a conveyor belt takes the glass through soapy water to clean it up.  Then nozzles spray the glass with a mix of talcum powder and water.

This prevents the glass from sticking to another sheet of glass.

A robot sets that second piece of glass, temporarily, on top of the freshly sprayed one.  The two sheets of glass are layered for processing, but will be pulled apart later. The next thing they do is silkscreen black paint around the borders of the glass which will become the inner part of the windshield.

The automative arms carry the glass to a station where samples are inspected visually.  After that rollers transfer the glass to automatic squaring pucks which positions them and then a robot lifts the sheets of glass and carries them to the next station.

This is a very interesting process.  Good for all car owners to know.

To learn about the entire process watch the 4:36 video from the Science Channel above.

    Testimonials

You won’t find better customer service or pricing than this shop. Charles and his staff diagnosed and fixed a mystery leak under my console and pointed out the mistake made by my former repair shop which caused it. They were courteous, friendly and informative throughout the process and even vacuumed out the water and polished my clouded headlight cover. I will be back, and highly recommend you try them out, too.

I got a new windshield placed in my ES 330 Lexus. They took only 40 minutes  at the most. They did a great job. Good price as well.

Awesome customer service. I broke my driver side glass and had called in for them to order a 2005 glass for a Toyota Corolla and when I got there of course it didn’t fit cause I’m a girl and gave them the wrong year..lol but they were nice enough to be positive and not give me an attitude  even though I felt so bad they  still went out of there way and said it was okay  and drove to go get it for me to install it and didn’t raise up the price .sorry for the long review but just thought I’d menti…

Price can not be beat. I called several places for quotes on replacing my windshield and it was outrageous. Of course I wasn’t only sold on their price, but also on the other reviews. My windshield was in stock, the service was quality and I was out in less than an hour. I recommend this place, everyone was really friendly.
